BLS Spain: every US visa application centre
BLS International is the contractor Spain uses to collect visa applications in the United States, the way VFS Global works for Portugal. There are eight centres, and you must use the one serving the consular district where you legally reside.
All eight BLS Spain centres in the United States
Find your state, then use that centre. Two of these have a full guide covering their own checklist quirks; the rest carry verified contact details while we research their consulate-specific requirements to the same depth. We would rather ship six honest directory entries than six pages of filler.

Four rules that apply at every centre
These are the ones that cost people appointments. None of them is obvious from the checklist you will be sent.
USPS money orders are no longer accepted
BLS published a notice withdrawing acceptance of USPS-issued money orders. Payments sent that way are returned and the application is delayed. Several consulate checklists still say 'money order' without this carve-out, so read the notice on usa.blsspainvisa.com before you buy one.
Appointments are only real if they came from BLS
BLS warns that third parties resell Spain appointments. Every appointment must be booked on the BLS International website. A slot bought from a reseller is not a slot.
RD 1155/2024 changed the paperwork on 20 May 2025
The reform of the Reglamento de Extranjeria tightened documentation for student and non-lucrative files. Checklists dated before that are unreliable, which is most of what ranks for these searches.
Consular fees and BLS fees are paid differently
The visa fee and the residence permit fee go to the consulate; the BLS service fee goes to BLS and is taken by card. They are not one payment and are not refundable if the visa is refused.
BLS is not VFS, and Spain is not Portugal
If you have researched a Portuguese visa you will have read about VFS Global. Spain does not use VFS. Writing VFS anywhere in a Spanish application is a sign you are working from the wrong guide, and there are a lot of wrong guides: several sites label Spanish visas with Portugal's D-codes, which do not exist in Spanish law.
The deeper difference is standardisation. Portugal runs one national checklist through VFS, so a Portuguese D7 file looks the same whether it is lodged in New York or San Francisco. Spain does not. Each consulate publishes its own requirements, and they genuinely diverge: Los Angeles states that applicants cannot have or leave loans or mortgages in the United States, a rule no other US Spanish consulate publishes. That is why these pages are per centre rather than one national guide.
If you are comparing the two countries, our VFS Portugal appointment guide covers the Portuguese side, and the cost of living in Spain versus the USA covers what you would actually spend once you arrive.
